I'm thinking I'll start looking in Chicago. I have a brother there. Its not an ideal destination, but at least I would have someone to run to when I fall flat on my face. I'm considering Baltimore or DC. I have a cousin in that area... so again, someone to at least have near. I would consider Cincinnati.

Longterm, I'm hoping for San Diego, Seattle, NYC or Miami. But I don't imagine that will be happening any time soon.
  4.
    Hang in there Pinch!
  5.
Seattle and boston are my favorite american cities. never been to chicago, but i would go if i had the chance to catch a game at fenway.
    San Diego could be interesting...
I would stay away from DC & Miami. what state is cincinnati in? ohio?
  6.
I have friends who have just moved out to Chicago Pinchy. They seem to be enjoying it so far.
Super cold this time of year though!

It's Wednesday, the week gathers pace from here on in.
  7.
San Diego...According to TLA is really expensive.......Chicago is really nice. Bright and shiny compared to NY. NY is dingy to me. Maimi is nice, but there is the occasional hurricane.
Baltimore is really expensive too. My mother's family lives in Baltimore so I like it a lot, but the cost of living is just through the roof.
My wife and I....AFter surgery and stuff are really thinking about moving to Austin. Apparently there is a big boom going on there right now and salaries are higher than the cost of living. You are land locked, but there is a lot culture in Austin. What with the music. Plus I could finish up more schooling at U of Texas at Austin. Both my parent went there so it would fitting.
There are some articles on the internet about the best cities to live in. You should take a look see Pinchy. I would find and link them, but I've got a really busy day going on.

Thanks, Guys. Yeah... I saw that article, Ed. I'll look at it again later.

FA, Cincinnati is in Southern Ohio. Again, not Ideal, but at least it isn't Cleveland and it could be a good stepping stone to finding the right place for me (plus my godmother lives there...)

Yeah... The East Coast cost of living is insane. Plus I probably couldn't easily find a job there.

San Diego would just be ideal because of all the Spanish there. Texas would be good, but I can't handle the heat. I'm no good with hot weather. Cold blooded Northerner.

Seattle is my goal. Never been there, but I just know that it would be a good place for me. But its a LOOOONG way to go without any plans.

So I settle on Chicago, just because my brother is there... I am familiar with the city. There are more options than in Cleveland (although probably not too many).

Blah. I don't know. I have some possibilities within the company that I'm at right now, but I'm not sure it would be the right decision to make and right now I'm so miserable with my family situation that I just want to leave and never come back.

Who knows... I'll probably end up taking some underappreciated civil servant job here and slide into a stupor only to come out of it 50 years later. Bah.
  8.
Nooooooo!!!!!!! Than you'll trade your dogs for cats and start hoarding newspapers Ohio events and old books about...what else....Cats!!!! Run! Your young and have already experience a rich environement. Boring Ohio
will just quelch your flame....Burn baby burn while you still can! What's the worst thing...You have to come back.
    I believe in you Pinch!!
  9.
Pinch, if i was living single i would offer you my 2nd bedroom, no rent. we could be roommates. but the way it is now the wife would get in the way....even though she trust me.
isn't the brother who's married with the chick you don't like in chicago?
even so, i would tough it out with them for like 6 months. you could do it. chicago or bust!

Thanks, Ed. I appreciate it. I really want to get out of Ohio. I was hesitant to look for a way out, because I wanted to spend time with my family. But since they have been going out of their way to make my life a living hell this past week, I think I'm going to worry more about what I need and less about what they want from now on. I feel bad, because I don't want to leave my grandfather. And I don't want to leave my cousins and my little cousins. And I don't want to leave the dogs... but I just don't know if that stuff is worth it to stay here. I'm contemplating e-mailing my brother and telling him to keep his eyes open for contacts or opportunities for me.

And FA... Thanks :-). I appreciate the thought, but yeah... It might be a bit crowded/awkward, 'specially with a little one on the way.
And yeah... My brother is getting married in a few months, and no... I don't particularly care for her. I wouldn't try to stay with them... especially not with the wedding coming up. It would just be nice to have someone I know close by in case I need something.

Anyways, I'm just a little upset right now. It may all blow over by next week. Either way, its a nice push to get me to reconsider what my options are and what I want to do.

    Thanks for listening, guys.
  10.
Send the email to your brother Pinchy. It can't hurt to hear what else is out there.

Sometimes you have to do what's best for you and not for other people. Or sometimes you have to do what you want to do, rather than what is expected of you.

If I was in the 'states rather than the UK - in a similar house to the one I am in now - there would be a spare room available for you with your name on it.

    Thanks, KB... I appreciate that.
I probably will e-mail my brother just to say to keep his eyes open for anything that might look interesting. I probably won't rush into it because I don't want to burden him with my meltdown while he's getting ready for his wedding... and I still want to finish out my time at this job that I'm at. But I'm going to get the ball rolling.

Apparently I'm just determined to make everyone's ears bleed today. Here is a version of I Wish You Were Here by a female, Spanish singer named Ana Torroja.

And to cleanse the palate, here is the original:

  18.
Well that was certainly better than what Limp Bisquit did to it for the 9/11 memorial. not bad.

  20.
Totally underrated. He should be a rock God and he isn't very well known.
  21.
Liked both versions of I Wish You Were Here, Pinchy. (I confess to liking the Floyd version slightly more, though could just be because I listened to it first!)

Going to listen to your selection now ed.

I MUCH prefer the Pink Floyd version. I honestly don't even like the Ana Torroja version. I tend to be very harsh on female singers, they have to be damn good or unique to impress me much. But I just got the urge to share it, so that's what I did. That's what I do with most of the songs I've posted here. I hear them and a bell rings, so I share. Don't really know why.
  22.
Similar story here with the song posting, Pinchy.

And thank you for sharing them.

[Ha ha. Replaced 'hear' with ''here. Freudian slip perhaps.]
  23.
hey pinch, i'm somewhat familiar with Ana Torroja and mecano's stuff. i love cover songs, and the arrangement is good, but i can't stand the bad english accents (in songs). one of the reason i hate shakira in english. but i also hate english singers trying to do their songs in spanish.
  24.
Thanks ed. Not bad. Couldn't the first to play, the second, had some good stuff in it all right. Third and fourth were cool, kicked it up a bit.
    Cheers man.

Yeah... Its not that its a bad version, but you are right... her English accent is pretty sorry. And I just don't care for her voice in general. Its too high for my tastes. I have some music by a pretty unknown Barcelona band that sings in English, and they are GREAT. You wouldn't even be able to tell that they aren't native English speakers. If I can figure out a way to upload a song or two, I'll do it later tonite when I'm home. If not, they are called Unfinished Sympathy and they have a myspace. I'll link that later.

I hate shakira too, but I just don't like her warbly voice. Blah. Like I said, I'm pretty picky when it comes to female voices.

Well... Its not very good quality, because its live and the audience is singing with him. I'm not sure if this kind of music would appeal to anyone else back here... But I just LOVE this song. Its by Manolo Garcia (famous artist in Spain). His lyrics are like poetry most of the time. But its pretty typical Spain rock/pop, maybe a bit of an acquired taste.

    Hahah... Glad you guys enjoyed.

Here are the lyrics f.a. He uses a lot of vocabulary that I'm not familiar with, so I honestly don't know much about the song... other than its a love song. Plus its so full of imagery that it would take some more in depth analizing.

Penacho de plumas, penacho de espuma
    como de cerveza,
como rubia trenza que no cesa.
De subir, de subir a lo alto
hasta la azotea a mirar el cielo.
    Donde vives ahora,
    en una casa baja;
    donde pasas las noches
    en tu cama de escarcha.
    Mándame en un sobre
    tu sonrisa rota.
    Rápido García.
    Yo te la compongo.
    Se reparan botas,
    bolsos de cuero y alpargatas,
canastos de mimbre, diademas de borlas.
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestros labios se quieran besar...
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestros labios se quieran besar...
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestras bocas se quieran besar.
    Con nieve de nardo
    yo te la remiendo.
    Con tela del aspa
    de un molino viejo.
    Con polvo del brillo
    de un trozo de espejo.
    Con el rabo blanco
    de un gato perplejo.
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestros labios se quieran besar...
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestros labios se quieran besar...
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestros labios se quieran besar...
    Que no hay nada más.
    Que no hay nada más
mientras nuestras bocas se quieran besar.
    Mándame en un sobre

    Que soy zapatero,
    que soy zapatero remendón...
    Que soy zapatero,
    que soy zapatero remendón...
    Que soy zapatero,
    que soy zapatero remendón.

AWESOME!! love this song! king, can you send me the mp3?
  54.
Groovy man! Make me think of when I was little my mother worked and was the branch head at a very ethnic branch of the library. They had a stage downstairs and they would put on their own musics shows....Even doing a very Evening at the Apollo type talent competition.
Even remember Cool & the Gang performing once. It was grand man. That is where I learned to love music. There was something about the 70's. Everyone had this groove....And this song personifies that to a T.
  55.
I like that ed, that must have been great. :)

    Will do francois.
  56.
As I was thinking about that...I remembered we also had this skating rink down the block from our house and we would go every Friday and skate our brains out to 70's R&B and funk. Also, while my mother was working, I would stay at the Salvation Army and they had juke box and would play music.
This has to be my favorite song from that era and almost any era.......It just brings back such vivid and wonderful memories.
You have to turn it up a bit...It is low......Mirror ball reflections are swirling through my mind right now. Awesome!
