Hon mentions to, Chet Baker, James Brown, Chic, Black Crowes, Living Colour, Earth Wind & Fire, Air, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Rotary Connection, Galliano, Mother Earth, Groove collective, Johny Hammond, Marvin Gaye. Corduroy, Gota, D'Influence, United Future Organisation, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin, Amp Fiddler... I better stop there before I hurt myself. Ha ha.
Ed 'Cosmic Slop' by Funkadelic is a good one, has all the elements that I personally like, weirdness, funk, rock, and deceptively simple melodies. I'll add more funk songs as I dig through the (meagre) collection.
*I don't know what it is (but it sho' is funky) by ripple. *You're losing me & You're gonna miss me by Ann Sexton *I gotcha - Joe tex. *It's a New Day by Skull Snaps. These * are in 'Stone Cold Funk.rar' 25.7mb Rapidshare

How could I forget: KB....Awesome list. Sly I'm familiar, but I'll have to look for some of the others. Thx! Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder....Two of my all time favorites. Oh and james Brown and Al Green rule. Otis Redding is awesome too. Recently got some great stuff by him. Oh Eve....Bit different group of artists there. I love the Cure and Tom Waits is great. Love Black Rider and recently got Mule Variations. I agree about Metallica...Altough I do like 2 songs on Load. Otherwise totally agree.
The Wallflowers are just one of those awesome 90s bands. And Jacob Dylan. How can you go wrong being the son of Bob Dylan and dreamy on top of that... sigh...
the wallflowers are awesome live too. all their albums are good. their second album came out when all the hype was britney/backstreet/insync/eminim and all the rest of that pile of shit singers/albums...so it was hard for anything good to get noticed
That was the word I was looking for Eve...Eclectic.....If you like the Cure you must like Bach...I kid....Sort of. Both are great on raindays. I'll have to look out for Terrence though. I grew up listening to The Cure, Duran Duran, Misfits and that sort of thing.....Love that new wave/punk thing. Leonard Cohen is interesting too. Especially his more recent stuff that has been highlighted on the Sopranos.
Okay, I'm going to do musical acts (solo and bands), beautiful women, and beautiful men. Just because I'm bored and I feel like it.
Bands:
10. David Bowie. 9. Cream/Eric Clapton 8. AC/DC 7. Prince 6. Jimi Hendrix 5. Emerson, Lake & Palmer. 4. The Rolling Stones. 3. Jeff Buckley 2. The Who. 1. Led Zeppelin.
Women (this is an of-all-time thing, so some of them may be old or deceased)
10. Monica Bellucci. 9. Catherine Deneuve. 8. Sophia Loren. 7. Laeticia Casta. 6. Ava Gardner 5. Lauren Bacall. 4. Rita Hayworth. 3. Ursula Andress (probably the most beautiful blonde I've ever seen, at least in my opinion) 2. Raquel Welch. 1. Ruslana Korshunova.
And now for men, this will be fun...
10. Eric Stoltz (the only redheaded man I find extremely attractive) 9. Christian Bale 8. Eric Bana 7. Jon Kortajarena (my current obsession) 6. Richard Gere 5. Robert Redford 4. Rock Hudson 3. Cary Grant 2. Gregory Peck 1. Paul Newman
Awesome Dina.......You know about Rock though? I love that you have Paul Newman as #1. I'd love to look like hime and Gregory Peck and Cary Grant had such great looks and great voices. Plus love that you have Who and Zep as 1 and 2. Awesome!
And thanks Eduardo! Yeah, I know about Rock. Sad. Actually, my grandmother, who was married to an extremely handsome man, (I have pictures of him on a blog marked "Papa". My myspace url is myspace.com/missexy.) had a huge crush on Rock back in the day. She actually went to the airport to see him get off the plane when he came to Hawaii. Haha I think that's the one actor she had a thing for. She told me she was very disappointed and shocked. But regardless of his sexuality, he was an undeniably beautiful man. And yeah, I love Paul Newman (my very handsome grandfather actually had a brother who resembled him. Man, I know I'm attractive but I got the short end of the stick compared to them!). Paul Newman is still a beautiful man. Just eternally gorgeous. I think any man would love to look like any of those actors, just like I'd love to look like any of the women I posted as my top 10. Oh and I grew up on a lot of classic rock from my mom and her siblings. Led Zep will always be my favorite with The Who a very close second. I got to see The Who in concert a couple years ago and it was great.
Again, you guys are so sweet! Much better energy than the bastardly. =P
fuckin a guy, knowing its not gonna last forever, nor is it going anywhere. still hoping, feeling all dead deep inside...
died of broken heart disease... things changed but im still the same.
loving someone u cant have, wanting to move on, at the same time, when given the opportunity, its snatched away from you right after u decided to give it a chance...
*not making any sense.. i guess im not supposed to...
thats why i love that song, it can mean a lot of things. it can remind u of funerals, pinch. but it still reminds me of that last kiss... that one kiss that can still bring tears to my eyes even up to now...
Haha I've got to watch my wording around here! Actually I didn't say "get off on the plane", I said "get off the plane". But rather, I should have said "depart from the plane". Haha
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is one of my favorites. It's hard to choose. I really love Thank You. I want Thank You playing at my wedding, at some point. I think it's one of the most honestly romantic songs ever written. I don't really care if he and his wife broke up, in that moment it was pure and honest. Oh yeah and Robert Plant was a hot bitch.
yo, robert plant was tight back in the day...looked like kate hudson no asked me, but i think my favorite zepplin songs are California (love the part that he talks about joni), when the levee breaks, ramble on and the rain song
In the order that they popped into my head: Monster Magnet Black Sabbath the Beatles Nick Cave The Who The Beastie Boys Queens of the Stone Age Tad Faith No More Kyuss Pearl Jam
Faith no more was awesome. i remember all the band members...even though the hard funky stuff was great, i really liked their version of lionel ritchie's Easy. mike was very versatile.
Nick Cave is Robert Browning reborn the guy takes the dark, sick, twisted, and pathetic and makes it beautiful I always feel a little depraved listening to Murder Ballads and taking such pleasure in it
Me too!!!!!!! I laugh my ass off with "The Curse of Millhaven"...I know it's horrible, but I can't help it. The darkest lyrics are "O'Mayley's Bar" ones, in my opinion. It's chilly the way he describes (in the smallest details) every single one of the murders.
yeah he is drawing on a long and rich history with that stuff i did a post on it a few weeks ago another good book to check out is James Ellroy's Killer on the road but i mean you can go all the way back to Milton, (and probably even further back) I think a lot of this starts with his very psychological portrait of Satan
live skull,dustdevils,black tambourine,lush,prolapse,swirlies,ut,charlottes,husker du/bob mould,band of susans,moonshake,kill sybil,this kind of punishment,medicine,faith healers(uk),bleach(uk)eric's trip,a.c.temple,the fall....
no sorry Eve i meant that the portrayal of evil characters evenly, psychologically and even in some cases sympathetically as seen in Murder Ballads had its beginnings in the character of Satan in Milton's Paradise Lost and Cave has definitely been influence by Milton, the phrase "Red right hand" is from Paradise Lost: One of Satan's generals Belial argues that the Devils should stay in hell and avoid God's wrath: With Heav'ns afflicting Thunder, and besought The Deep to shelter us? this Hell then seem'd A refuge from those wounds: or when we lay Chain'd on the burning Lake? that sure was worse. What if the breath that kindl'd those grim fires Awak'd should blow them into sevenfold rage And plunge us in the flames? or from above Should intermitted vengeance arm again His red right hand to plague us? and as you mention he places references to Milton in other songs as well
I knew "Red Right Hand" was from Milton (and also the name of a song from the album "Let Love In"). I was just remembering the lyrics from "Song of Joy" where he says: "In my house he wrote, "Red right hand" That, I'm told, is from Paradise Lost". But thanks anway.
And no François, I don't hate you for posting that (I actually laughed my ass off when I saw it on SNL).
it's about to get a little gangster... top artists- dr dre nas big-l notorious b.i.g 2-pac lupe fiasco common jay-z snoop dogg (old school snoop more so) wu-tang kano slum village
slightly less gangster- mylo hard-fi jamiroquai micheal jackson axwell isley brothers amy winehouse mariah carey jill scott faith evans
i could go on... but i be bothered. maybe i'll add more later
i like the real Ol' SKool (golden age) rappers, from like the 80s and early 90s....run dmc, 3rd bass, big daddy kane, LL cool j, public enemy...ya heard? but mainstream rap these days is so fuckin lame, they all talking about the same shit, but they aren't really saying anything new/different. just music for the white kids.
hey guys/ladies! some of you may know me from posting under the recent BLOTD's. if not, i'm Emily (i was a BLOTD a couple of weeks back). now, onto my top 10: (best i can come up with at 2:30 in the am) 10.A Perfect Circle 9. Our Lady Peace 8. Mute Math 7. Counting Crows 6. Prince 5. Massive Attack 4. Brand New 3. Fiona Apple 2. Third Eye Blind 1. Smashing Pumpkins (Billy Corgan is a gOd!)
Hi Emily, Welcome to the forum. thanks for coming and saying 'hi', while burning the midnight oil. I remember your recent pictures, you are very nice, you had good answers too if I recall correctly. Enjoy.
hi emily. i remember your blotd entry... welcome to the bastardly back alley.
francois and ed your right about the state of hip hop now. it's totally disgusting. the rappers can't rap and the beats a melodyless collection of drum patterns, bah! i prefere 80's and 90's rap more. (mainly ninties cause thats the time i really started listening to music) some more hip hop from the golden era-
pete rock (underrated legend) track is "they reminisce over you"
ice cube "good day"
lets not forget grandmaster flash and the furious 5. 80's classic "the message". dodgy cloths but this track was ahead of it's time...
Only like the occasional bit of hip-hop/rap. Liked grandmaster flash, melle mel and some of those dudes. This geezer, Pete Miser, some of his stuff is good. This one's called scent of a robot. Clever lyrics. Cool Vid too.
f.a. yeah whatevermy list never matches up with one else. ever.maybe if there was another like me...but i really doubt it....
and what about the pop/accessible end of alternative as actaul alternative and not normal rock or is that too insane to dream/hope of ??? you know it is.....
