Just wanted to get a convo started about this crap since it's been a chronic problem for us since the beginning...

do our ads suck ass?! I thought by going the non-annoying route (unlike other blogs where they flood their sites w/ ads), people would be more compelled to click on ads. People are still not clicking on anything for some odd reason.

    Let us know your thoughts.

And also, we're contracting designers for a full redesign of the site. It's been 5 years and looking at the same shit everyday is getting kinda tiring & boring.

You aren't getting rid of Zappa, are you??? I've gotten so used to gazing into his eyes on a daily basis, I don't know what I'll do without him.

As for the ads, I don't know what would help with that situation. I avoid them like the plague on any site I'm on... I'm guessing a lot of people do.

If it helps keep the bastardly going, I'll try to remember to click on them. Do you have to buy something from the company or just click on them? Don't really know how that works...
  1.
I rarely click on ads on websites has to be said. Though I have looked at the complex ones a couple of times. I'll try and do some click-through more often.

A five year anniversary redesign. Cool. I hope Zappa stays in some capacity too.
  2.
Um... I hate to be the one to point this out, but a lot of people these days seem to use firefox. And I think a lot of those firefox users have Adblock+ installed.

This could partially explain why not many people seem to click on ads, right?

i thought the dudes in the community would at least click on the GTA ad, but I guess the burden to get people to click is on the backs of the ad agencies. if the ads are designed with normal users in mind, it should work.

anyway, no need to buy anything, but a click and a brief browse through their site is more than enough. most of our ads are to create buzz and get the word out about something---nada mas.

we're trying to get more relevant ads, but that takes a lot of patience.

ya, i'll try to keep zappa in some capacity, but we'll see what happens. you never know, some designer might think up something totally amazing...
  3.
    keep zappa.

and cause i want to be positive...

if we CLICK THE ADS....thats all you need? no nned to actually buy anything?

cause, honestly, i dont click the ads cause its nothing i use, like yiou had sneaker ads for Adidias? i believe, i only use Smith's or Timberlands for work....and Adio as sneakers...

ill click the ads if they are there from now on, but, most of the stuff is stuff i dont use...if that makes sense?

what's funny is i almost never click the ads
but it did remember seeing John QTV here and i looked it up to see if i could watch an old episode of lost
turns out it's a pay site so no go but it seems kind of unfair you guys don't get money unless people actually click the ads
because they are still doing their job
or do get some money, just not as much?

moe... i like the ads more uh before whatever happened. you know when we got ads for movies in theatres and dvd's.
  4.
Were those content related type ads glim. They seemed to be attuned to whatever the post was about - I think.
Could be wrong about that though

oh you sort of like opera browser used to do ????

but i really don't the movie ads. like the one's we had back her in the forum for 300 etc. were content driven.

you remember when lions gate would be hypping movies like open water 2 of skin walkers for days. i think that had to have been paid for in advance and a planned ad....
  5.
Ah, that's it. I think that I'm thinking of the forum ads! Oops. Thanks glim.
  6.
Yeah...I only click that add if it is by accident....Like I'm trying to torcher Pamela in one post and by accident I hit the left mouse button a little later......That's when I click on them.
I'll try to be more proactive in looking at the sponsors....BTW...I thought the sponsors paid by not only click, but also by purchase. Like you guys would get more of a precentage if someone actually purchased something from the advertisers.

haha. I wish! the ad market is brutal, unfortunately.

I just think our campaigns don't click w/ our people, but I think the firefox adblock thing might also be playing a role in this. Oh well...we'll see what happens.
  7.
Actually...No matter the site I don't even look at the sponsors. I don't know if it's just me....but unless it's pornographic and I have, quick get rid of the page, I don't notice them at all.
But for you Moe...I'll start clicking....To appease the internet Gods.
