    Hi Everyone!

I've finally wandered off the main page and made my way to the forum! I'm new here, though I've been able to meet many of the regulars here already ;) I'm a graduate student in NY right now, but I miss my home in S. California. I have perfectionist tendencies and can be fairly compulsive about certain things...I think this is good and bad.

    1. My biggest hero is Steven Colbert after he roasted Bush in the White House Correspondents Dinner. Since then, I've believed him to be the man with the biggest balls on the planet-the type you can see from outer space ;)

    2. I like many water sports/activities, and did competitive swimming for a long time....I also lifeguarded for a bit and found this to be an incredibly boring job. I enjoy teaching kids how to swim.

    3. I like watching NFL football (when I had the time), and "soccer" aka, "football" as well. Watching the World Cup and having cider is great, but no offense to Italians out there...Italy may be a strong team, but I can't stand their dirty tricks...they're completely in a class of their own on this-and the replays make this very clear. I also want to strangle the Refs. at times, and penalty shoot outs raise my blood pressure to very dangerous levels...

    4. When I have more free time, I want to polish up on my Spanish. I also have an overactive imagination and envision some bold moment where I will stride up to some hot Spaniard with a determined expression saying something like "Yo quiero tu cuerpo"!! lol! (I don't discriminate...I imagine myself trying this with other hot men of different cultures if I could speak their language!)

    5. I don't like dumb and ridiculous people who are fake.

    6. In life, I place a high premium on laughter and friendship. I like getting dressed up and going out with the girls...

    7. People who are intelligent, think independently, and can talk straight with you have my respect.

    8. I worked in Switzerland last summer and consider it to be one my most happiest times

    9. I am often told that I have overly idealistic notions of romance.

I hope to meet more of you who are here if after reading this description of me hasn't put you off ;)
    Have a nice weekend!
  2.
Hi JC! You finally found your way back here eh? Great. :)
  3.
    Hi JennyClaire,
Welcome to the forum. Nice intro!

I too like football/soccer still play five a side football on occasion. I used to play for my college and on Sunday. Joined a semi-pro team for a while, but I much preferred playing football to training! Ah well. We have the European Championships this summer looking forward to that.

Competitive swimming? Cool. I can imagine lifeguarding is brain meltingly boring...

Laughter and friendship is cool, among other things.

Switzerland, cool! Must have been nice. Which part?

Ha ha. That would certainly be an ice-breaker if you were to say that to a hot Spanish guy. ha ha

    Have a good one.

    Hey guys!

King biscuit -where does that screen name come from ?! Who are you rooting for in the European Championships?

Lifeguarding is braining melting...and you literally feel like you're melting under the sun...

I traveled around Switzerland and went to Paris in the summer, but I worked in Geneva...its really a cool place because you meet so many people from different countries there...

Lol, and as for an ice-breaker like that...haha, I don't ever think I'd do that in real life...though I almost fell off the elliptical machine when I laughed at the thought of it!

    Oh, well look at that.

Hey Jenny from the block, good to see you back here.
  4.
Lol...Hi Chef, after reading my guestbook today, I would say you have very good timing ;)
  5.
    Hello Jenny Claire,
I like your intro, you sound awesome.
I im 27 yrs old, married, live in nyc. i have 3 kool kats, and i also like to travel, photography, art, jazz/classical.
i also like Colbert, bill maher, george carlin, South park, family guy
  6.
    Hey Jenny Claire.

Well the name is a mixture of ideas lost in the mists of time, legend and memory altering devices. ha ha.
It may have been an attempt at anonymity. A nod to a jazz festival called king biscuit. A title bestowed upon me for rescuing the Empower Biscuitus Cremebourne III, when I accidentally strayed into an alternate reality one day when I plugged my fax machine into a GPS unit.
Or some other far, far, darker reason, related to men in dark suits behind doors without handles....

I haven't got any one team at the moment, but I will keep an eye on Poland, Croatia and Holland.
Are you rooting for any team?

Cool, Geneva. Nice to have been able to travel around and Paris in the summer must have been very nice!

Ha ha! Fair enough. Careful on the elliptical!

    Hola Jenny, welcome.
  7.
hello Jenny and welcome to the bastardly back alley.... i'ma go ahead and express the fact that you are beautiful now, and just get it out the way.

    JennyClaire... you are beautiful.
    there you go...
  8.
    Hey Jenny
I also lifeguarded for a bit and found this to be an incredibly boring job.

Funny stuff.....So true. I was a swimmer for a long time was even considered olympic class...Well until I tryed to do a skateboard rail slide down a stairwell and broke my knee cap....Good by Olympics!
Funny you say that about lifeguarding.......It's the only job I've ever had when I've had genuine schadenfreude moments....Hoping someone would go under so my day might get interesting....Otherwise you just sit there and bake in the sun.....Unless you were luck enough to have one of those umbrellas. The other half of the time you are yelling at kids for doing stupid stuff on the side of the pool instead of in the poll and than silently having more schadenfreude moments as you imagine the kid slipping hitting the deck....Not enough to permanently injure him of course just enough to teach him a lesson....I don't say her, because boys were the biggest horseplayers.
Anyway...I know I am sick bastard...That is why I am in this straight jacket...How do I type? Two words....Bic Pen.
Welcome Jenny!!! I'm Richard Schlicting in the front....If you are curious.

Hi Jenny, Welcome to the forum.

I love Steven Colbert too! I also happen to love water activities as well. hah :)

and heyyy I'm learning spanish right now too. I took a year of spanish in high school but my teacher and the class was a joke. We didn't learn anything. So here I am starting again from scratch. I love saying things in spanish, it sounds so hott. It's like a naturally sexy language.

By the way, What's your favorite NFL team?

Hola Muchachos! lol...how come only men are coming out here to greet me?!

Very nice to hear from all of you!

Francois-I'm in NY, but sadly, my unversity is not located in the city. I attend Cornell, and while it is nice in itself, it is located in some remote area on top of a hill, seriously. You can tell who's been here for awhile by seeing who has stronger calf muscles ;) Back home, I have two cats, Nathan and Bagel. Nathen is kinda getting fat and has puffy paws, Bagel, well...I guess he kinda got that unfortunate name afer he jumped on my lap during lunch when eating a bagel....from there, the rest is history.

You sound like a cool person with who I probably have a lot in common with....minus being married...lol!!! I also enjoy art, architecture, jazz (old big band stuff like Duke Ellinton and the boys to stuff like Sinatra, Bennet, Pink Martini....I actually had a some French guy introduce me to this...have you listened to them before? I like their song "Hang on my little tomato" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC-Yuq4Tfx4 ) I have some other good jazz pieces I could attach for you sometime! Another really good piece is a mix of classical and jazz...and that is Air on a G string done in a jazz rendition.

Also, if you (or anyone else here) like Colbert and stuff related, you may also enjoy these links I had sent Jackson as well:

King Biscuit: Thank you for uncovering the enigma in which you name was! I haven't yet picked on favs. for the European Championship...but I expect we will be seeing Germany, Italy and France up there somewhere! I do like Croatian team...

Geneva was the coolest. People really learn to relax and enjoy life there! At 5/6...EVERYONE leaves work and does not stay in! You find people eating dinner and sipping wine by the lake at sunset...it is very nice! I use to like running by the lake...

    I want to go back!!!

Manolo Hola! I spied that you play acoutic guitar from your profile...I am quite envious! I play the piano...but I have always wanted to also play the cello and guitar...guitar mostly so I could sing with it....I always thought there was something cool to that...Plus, unlike the piano...you could actually move it around with you!

Lokiman the Bastard Thanks for the welcome and compliment...that is very sweet of you ;) "Sir, may I say that flattery will get you everywhere!" hahaha...anyways, nice to hear from you, I'm sure I'll be seeing you more around now that i'm here in the back!

Eduardothefreak Ok, can I honestly tell you that you revealing yourself as "Richard Schlicting" does not surprise me whatsoever? Actually, I had some weird flash of this feeling when I read that "I've had genuine schadenfreude moments"....I know I haven't said much on my main page...but TRUST ME, lol...I do lots of quiet observation regarding the threads and people who write on it! I'm a people watcher...lol, and I have never seen so many manifestations of crazy from some people..hahaha....so yeah, all the insecure who read this and have worries, lol-start feeling self conscious ;P

Anyways, I wouldn't worry about being a sick bastards with those thoughts you have just shared...hehe, because I swear, I couldn't have said it better myself. Um, sickly enough, I've had more than my fair share of those fantasies...maybe more-my overactive imagination tends to run a muck sometimes, and I have a hard time reining it in when I should!!!

ps. I like your sense of humor ;)

    AND

Chef I AM the Jenny from the block here now ;0...but trust me, I won't be trying to "keep it real" by grinding up 24 carat gold into dust and buffing my ass with it! lol...celebrities are so ridiculous...

    Hi Ana!

I'm so glad to run into another fellow Colbert lover...lol, he is god! I also am a huge fan of Jon Stewart! Have you seen the Colbert clip on Starbucks? If not, here's the link...its fantastic!

    http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertreport/videos.jhtml?videoId=156645

I agree that Spanish is a super sexy language...lol, latin based languages are sexy like their men...hahaha!!! I really want to regain fluency....its been awhile since I really spoke in Spanish....

I can't say i have a fav. NFL team now (I'm out of the loop now) ..but I use to be a huge fan of the 49ers and Cowboys....how about you? Btw...where are you out at?!

Yup. Spanish is damn sexy. I just started learning it about two weeks ago (on my own, I bought a spanish program for my computer) and I'm picking it up super fast because I speak French and Romanian which are both latin languages so I can really see the similarities.

I'll definitely have to check out that Colbert clip.... He's hilarious.

And I don't have a favorite NFL team. I don't exactly like american football but I love sports and can appreciate it so I was excited to see another girl who is a sports fan! Everyone here knows me as the obsessive NBA fan. I am basketball crazy and have been glued to the tv the past week since the playoffs just started not long ago and there are so many good games on every day. I am a Lakers fan. I live in Los Angeles. :D
  9.
Whoa..lakers fan!!! I was born in LA, so I can definitely feel you on the whole Lakers thing. I use to watch that waaayyyy back in the day also when there was Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar...i was a little kid then too!

I miss being in California soooo much. What are you up to out there? My closest friends are out there...

I've also contemplated about doing the whole Spanish program too....I figured it shouldn't take too long....I did several years before. I really really want to learn how to speak French though...lol...if not just to speak with a Frenchman in his native tongue ;P
  10.
Hey...Jenny....Yes....I am a people watcher too....More so in the real world. On Bastardly I like to get into the mix.
As a lifeguard the only thing other than do what I describe below is to be a people watcher......My girlfriend and I, back after highschool used to sit in the Paramus mall and just make fun of everyone or make comments.

I haven't taken my voyeur skills to the next level and bought a telescope, but than again I don't live in a highrise...I live in the country.

Although recently I have gotten sick of being the outsider listening to other people conversation and being too shy to say hello.....I'm married so I guess that gives me a buffer, but I often now interject my thoughts into total strangers conversations....At first they are taken a back.....But on commute I've ended up making a few friends now by doing just that.....I'm tired of being shy and withdrawn....Bastardly has brought that out in me....Plus I know I am funny and quick witted and have far more confidence in who I am....So why be silent..
    Sorry to go off there....
Anyway.....Glad you like my humour.....My goal is always to make people laugh....I certainly don't make comments from my own amusement....I like to share the fun.
Welcome Jenny....Glad I'm not alone on the lifeguard thing too.

    Ed.

I am more of a people watcher in real life too...lol..it's a hobby I have when I am getting coffee out....I'm the one sitting by the window looking at you! ;)

You definitely seem funny and quick witted..which is very good when used well (some people who have this trait can be such jerks at times!!..glad you aren't!) With that being said...I'm very happy to hear that you are coming out of your shell....I like joking alot and making others around me laugh as well :)

You know, your little recounting of the lifeguard stuff was so funny because it was way too relateable! Lol... gosh, those lifeguarding days also provided bundles of interesting tales as well ;0 Hehe, you come across all sorts of characters and incidents...
  13.
Hey Jenny, wow cornell, thats awesome.
old big band stuff, that is my specialty! i don't know who i would be if i didn't feed off the recordings of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Ellington, Sinatra, Bennett, Anita O'day - along with the Cole Porter songs, The Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Frank Loesser, Harold Arlen...alright now i sound like a complete jazz geek/asshole. but thats what i am.
OVERALL, you sound like a very sound-minded individual, i hope you hang around here and make your presence throughout the forum.
  14.
Hi Francois...wow, you hit all the big guys....lol, but you left out one of my favorites...and that 's Glenn Miller! I love his Moonlight Serenade...!!!
  15.
    ah glen miller!
wow, you really know your big bands, i'm more than impressed.
Did you see the movie "the glen miller story" staring jimmie stewart? its fantastic, one of my fave musician bio pics

my faveorite glen miller songs are Penn 6500 - (i've been in that hotel many times, they considering demolishing it to make room for another high rise) AND Kalamazoo!

    more on the Pennsylvania hotel
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Pennsylvania
  16.
Nooooo! Really? That sounds great...I love Glenn..especially Tuxedo Junction, String of Pearls and In the Mood! Wow.....what a time to live in...

I use to play the piano for the jazz band I was in throughout jr. high...

And Glenn, *sigh*...I have this very dumb fantasy of dancing to Moonlight Serenade under the stars...or something of that silly nature.
  17.
Another occasional 'people watcher' here. :) And I too like a bit of jazz and some big band 'swing' every now and again. Maybe not as much as you guys though!
    Penn 6500 is great francois.
You seen a film called 'hellzapoppin', it has jazz, jive, jitterbug and mad screwball comedy!

    hellzapoppin. yup.
  18.
hey king! wow, i saw that movie 10 years ago in high school. it was awesome, those black dancers were ferocious swingers. i hope it comes out on dvd.
Everytime i pass thru harlem, i try to mentally transport myself to the Harlem of the 1935, it must have not looked as pretty as it does today.
just the other day i noticed there was a nursing home named "the Lionel Hampton", crazy...

jenny, moonlight serenade is fantastic song, whenever i hear it, i imagine myself sitting on a boardwalk bench in old coney island...at times i could be such a fuddy duddy

here's some "in the mood", to many it may seem a bit of a Swing cliche, but when those saxs' play the intro bars, it gives me a boost equal to a 4 espressos doppios

  19.
    :D
Cool! Yup, know what you mean. Saw some modern day 'jazzcotech' dancers a few years ago, similar energy. Excellent.
    The 'Lionel Hampton'! Wow.

Yep, a crazy laker fan. Laker Nation, Baby!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles so I'm just here living my life and enjoying the city. I can't imagine living elsewhere, maybe San Francisco- It's a really cool and liberal city, but I don't think so.. SoCal is my life.

And you should learn french. It's good to speak more languages. If you do learn it, practice with me!! I definitely need practice and am starting to forget it. I have no one to communicate with so it's hard to maintain my speaking skills. I was never fluent but I was very good and able to hold long conversations, my only problem was that french doesn't feel natural [yet] to me. Know what I mean? I could speak it and had all the words and everything in my memory but it never came to me effortlessly like English does for example. It takes me longer to think about what I want to say and how to say it. It comes to me pretty fast most of the time but I could still improve because I want it to come more naturally to me...When I speak english, I don't even have to think about what I want to say, it just comes out.
I don't know how to explain it but i'm sure you know what I mean.
  23.
    Hey Dirtybastard....how are you doing?!!
  24.
Anababy- what ethnic background are you if you don't mind me asking? I would love to learn French...I hope to really pick that up when I have more time....I hope to catch up on Spanish first just because I know it. But French...it just sounds so nice to me! I want to go back to Switzerland and France and be able to talk in French to people...

I completely know what you mean about thinking about what you have to speak of first...that is how Spanish is for me....

My Chinese is really going since I don't have any of my family here in NY or anyone else to really speak to....

    *sigh*

I really miss LA and Orange County....I only went this far out to NY because of my school...I'm in the Central NY...in Ithaca...the only full on LIBERAL city in NY. During the elections, we were the blue in the sea of red...it is really one of most progressive places to be....in that respect, its great! People are really socially and politically conscious here.
  25.
Hey my cousin went to Ithaca and I have a cabin in the Thousand Islands just North of Watertown.....
Oddly my cousin's roomate was the guy who wrote the screenplay for Bull Durham....So this was a while ago.
I forgot, but I though DB was Japanese for some reason....or was TLA...I don't remember....I know there is some relation to vietnam, because she wrote me something related to Khmer Rouge and how it affected her family.
    What Nationality/Nationalities are you?

I'm american, born and raised, and consider myself american but my parents are both Romanian immigrants. I speak Romanian fluently but I CAN'T read/write it. I can kind of read it, but it takes me a long time to make out the words. The reason I can't read or write it is because I was never taught the language, I just grew up hearing my parents and grandmother speak it so I picked it up.

Lived in Ithaca or school there? I don't know why good unversities are often times located in random places? Yale...New Haven, USC...another bad neighborhood....??!! Where is Thousand Islands in relation to Ithaca? I am a geographical idiot of this region...

USC is in the worst neighborhood. It's like in the ghetto near downtown. The streets are dirty, the buildings around are run down, and it's a poor area.

For such an expensive school they could've found a nicer location. But i'm guessing that the surrounding area was nicer when USC first opened up.
  27.
Yeah...When I say just north you have to remember I commuted 7 hours a day for 7 years so 3 to 4 hours is like a drive to corner and back.....As JM said though.....it is North of Ithaca.
I'm Irish and a small part American Indian.
  28.
yeah, the neighborhood around USC is ghetto....it's shit town from what I've heard
  29.
    Ahhh, 3 hours..

    7 hours a day....um, that is crazy.

Oh, I would say Irish was cool, but I had a met a Irishman that went psycho on me, and since then, I've been feeling sketchy about them ;0
  30.
Yeah...There is temper issue in my family. Fortunately I missed that chromosome and have a lot of patience. My uncle for instance once went over the counter after a guy at McDonalds over an arguement over the size of a soda....Most of my fathers side is like that....I can also drink like fish and not get drunk....But I really don't need to drink anymore unless I'm partying or something.
  31.
Sounding Irish there my friend ;)
  32.
:) Also my beard when it gets long gets red....My mothers side I don't know...She was adopted and the hospital she was born in burned down with all the records....So I may never know what else I am. Either way...Glad I don't have temper issues, but it would also be nice to have a couple beers and get a buzz....I drink like 12 and I'm more sober than when I began.
  33.
I'm glad to hear you don't have a temper issue either....that can be a very nasty thing. I use to be in a relationship with someone who had temper issues-now that is not very nice.

and lol @ "I drink like 11 and I'm more sober than when I began."
  34.
Yeah....If I have any hope of getting trashed I have to do shots too.
  35.
lol....I think that's easier on me than beer...I'm not a beer person....
  36.
I love beer, but it is so fattening. I've learned, when I am drinking anything, that Stohli vodka and cranberry juice is really good.....I could drink Stohli vodka straight though....It doesn't have that taste that most vodkas give you at the end....You know the one that kind of send shivers down your spine.
  37.
i'm a grey goose type of guy, stohli is my second choice. absolute is horrible, could pass for rubbing alcohol.
but overall, i'm a champagne/beer type of guy. drink 2 bottles of champagne every friday night
  38.
Grey Goose is my #2....I just have a thing for Stohli.....But yeah...I'd love my beer and champagne is nice if not to sweet. Also love a good Chardonnay.
  39.
I'm still for a good brandy or martini...Armenians make good brandies...my friend was pissed, cause he said they sold the only good thing from their country to the Russians!!!

Champagne is great...but so are ports, and German riesling.
  40.
Oh yeah....Ports are great....So many great flavors. Especially if you have some good cheese.
Rieslings are nice.....A bit smoother to me....
I've never like Cabernet's though.....Kind of refined port, but refined to the point that it lacks character at times.

I pretty much had the same experience like you when it came to picking up the language. I am born and raised american, but my parents are both Chinese immigrants as well.

Now here's a politically incorrect question for you..."what gymnastic exercise do you excel at most?!" j/k of course ;) ....don't go get offended now!! Anyways, I play the piano!!!! lol!

Oh yeah....Ports are great....So many great flavors. Especially if you have some good cheese.
Rieslings are nice.....A bit smoother to me....
I've never like Cabernet's though.....Kind of refined port, but refined to the point that it lacks character at times

Ports ARE great!!! You should try an Australian one some time...they are very distinct in taste...and very good! I love cheese, and kinda a snob about it. Some of my favorites are Chesire, Stilton with Cranberries, and my all time favorite is Cave Aged Gruyere Cheese!!!

Cabernets are definitely refined....but Merlots are very much full bodied and rich tasting...

Nice to see you are are a good sport ;) Lol...but I took gymnastics when I was growing up...and ballet!!!

I did alot of more "guy" sports later and was a huge tomboy growing up ....hehehe, my mother always recounts a story of when my grandmother came to visit me in preschool and found me pummeling some little boy in the sand box ;0

Glad to hear you play the piano! I really wish I could play the cello and guitar though....that's on my checklist for things in the future!

Jenny...Yes...Merlots are nice...Kind of a middle ground between Ports and Cabernet, but they still have some character. In fact sometimes they are better because ports can be a bit rough and subdue the great flavors within.
A great port is hard to beat though....Hard to pay for too. :O)

I play guitar and most stringed instruments. I play piano a bit, but not as well as I would like....Hopefully I'll get to the level I want to soon....But it is a bit frustrating starting from scratch when you already play one instrument...It's like, Oh this again.

Oh Jenny can you help me with my math homework? J/king.....Think along the line of your gymnastics joke.
    :O)
Cultural stereo types can be funny in the proper context.....
This isn't the way you want to venture into other cultures:

I really hope no one is offended by that Especially KB and Loki.....Growing up as white kid in an all black neighborhood, I just know the reality....That that guy wouldn't have made it 2 feet.

Ed-for you information...math is my worst subject !!! (wow, um....is this something I should be so proud of??!!) haha, anyways, nice to know you play some instruments too...and the ones I want to learn! Lol...ok, let's start "Making the Bastardly Band" ;)

Anyways, um, that video made me think "oh no you didn't!!!!!" ....hehe...let's just see what KB ad Loki have to say about it!!! But yeah, in terms of stereotypes, it is important to always put them in the right context....lol, unless you want an ass beating ;0
