From the Philadelphia Inquirer

As great as Downey is and as entertaining as the other performances are, what makes the film is Tony's joy of making. Whether Tony is in an Afghan cave, his ailing heart hooked up to an electromagnet and a car battery while improvising his first armored suit, or in his basement, designing and test-driving Iron Man's gold-and-titanium upgrade, the film delights in the mechanics of invention, which is infectious. It's a machine dream, and a happy relief from the typical blockbuster's reliance on digital effects.

Until a final conflict that more resembles a monster-truck jam than a superhero showdown, Iron Man is solid gold.

Carrie Rickey gave the movie 3 1/2 stars and it is a good review
but how do you complain about a special effects showdown at the end of a Super Hero movie.
It's like watching Eddie Murphy's Raw and saying
oh he is so funny, i just wish he wouldn't curse so much
people go to see a movie like Iron Man for the special effects and the fights
that is one of the reason people like comic books
it's cool if you don't like it
but don't downgrade a movie because it does something right
i have not seen the movie yet BTW
probably won't get a chance till next week unfortunately

well,i haven't seen it either..but i think she could complain if the final fight thing seemed low fi/low tech in comparsion to the rest of the movie. or if it seemed like an anti climax..whatever...

but whatever,3 1/2 stars put is in the win column. iron man is likley the only superhero movie i'll see this summer...

currently 81% at metacritic..

93% a rotten t (and it has a 92% with the rt cream/top critics thing)

i think the numbers at metacritc may raise when it opens....

usually getting a higher number is harder at metacritic....(especially for a 'big' film) and i do consider metacritic more prestigious..and i like it/trust it alot more than rotten t..

but 81% for a superhero movie at metacritic is very good...

batman begins only got a 70% at metacritc...so ironman has a great start...

Yea, 94% on Rotten is pretty damn high for a comic book movie. Might be the highest ever.

they got it right

they got it right!
11.
ok cmon now....94%? 9 of 10?

the movie was pretty cool, but its not THAT GOOD.

heres my issues with the movie....

Paltrow, her part couldve been better cast, and Jeff Bridges as the villian, well, i found him REALLY WEAK...

one of the previews, and maybe everyone can agree, but, was the Hulk.
Tim Roth is the villian in that and it looks like its him and his army VS Hulk.....he survives and walked up to ghulk saying...

"is that all you got?"

and the Hulk kicks him in teh chest, and the next scene in the trailer is like Tim Roth sitting up ion a hospital bed saying....

"if your going after huim again, coun me in"

now THATS a villian.

Jeff Bridges' villian wasnt honestly very good.

BUT, in the end, Robert Downy Jr, rightly so carried the movie and made the movie IMHO....i mean, is there one part where his style of acting in this is not funny or entertaining? id say no. EVERYPART hes in is great....be it when he's trying to get Paltrow to shove her hand in his chest or like when he 1st tries out the flying thing and he all flips over onto tyhe ceiling.

but, 9 out of 1o or 94% is quite a bit high considering like i said, 2 of the 3 main parts were REALLY Miscast IMHO.

not to say i WONT but it on DVD.....Downey Jr was awesome in the movie, what i was expecting from the trailers from him is what i got and i wasnt dissapointed.....
12.
*No spoilers included! ha ha*
I liked Bridges part. He seemed to be enjoying the role. Yup, I'll be getting this on DVD, no doubt about it.

Ok, Phil...

*spoiler alert*

Stane is more of a villian in the Lex Luthor corporate sense. Abomination is an archvillian. Big difference.

*end spoilers*
13.
in all fairness... the part with Tim Roth i was talking about in the trailer hes 100% human....and hwo could u miss the Lex Luthor bit with Jeff Bridges in this...the baldness gives it away.

BUT i get what your saying, but, 2 off the top of my head that were better than Jeff Bridges....John Travolta in The Punisher and Michael Duncan Clarke in Daredevil.

both ordinary people.....both were a world better than Jeff Bridges.

and even with oyut that comparison, i still think that Jeff Bridges was weak....

cmon, hes the dude...and all he ever wanted was his rug back....

14.
i dunno McCracken. i think the fact that they had a lesser villian is what made the movie so great. they didn't spend too much time having to fit the origins of ironman and a villain into one movie, which gave them the chance to spend more time on ironman himself. which gave Downey Jr the chance to shine and inturn... make the movie what it was. i dunno... i would still give it a 9. and it was kick ass seeing iron man looking so good. he is an underrated hero in my book... he won't be anymore. not after this movie...

oh... and that scene where is was trying to fly was hilarious... the little robot guy with the extinguiser... too funny.

loki..so you feel dc is behind in the super hero movie 'war' ???

i saw somewhere in netland some kid said dc pushes backthe release date/halts production on their movies with the expection of batman....hmm.....
16.
because like i've said in a past post. batman is the most interesting DC character. his presence and style is very different from other dc heros, who are (in my view) ridiculously unbalanced. i think it's best they do halt production, cause if i had a choice to watch something as basic as superman or aquaman, or between stan lee's mater-pieces like ironman or spider-man or even x-men. i know what i'd choose...
17.

loki...i have no idea what dc is doing....or else they have the worse luck ever. their chracters get 'optioned' but the movie never happens...

e.g ??? ok dc was going to another superman movie (hey tori ! ) but then they pushed back. because the wanted to do a justice league movie (see they figure this would be a good way to intoduce 'leeser' known heroes)

and it seemed they were going to do justic league movie. jjust a matter of getting the cast..and they were suppoed to be ready to go...

but then the writers strike hit.and the project got stop....

ok so post writeres stike...they here supposed to get stuff ready...

and than whatever happens and production or even writing scipt (nad yep still no cast yet either) gets stop...

good or bad marvel is getting afew movie withtheir charcters done a year...even having box office sucess with lesser known charcters ala ghost rider/iron man...and whatever else....

well i guess dc can look forward to another batman in 2011....

Obidiah Stane is not an over the top villan he is an understated sneaky bastard
and Jeff Bridges is perfect for that roll
there is no way a raving psychopath, like Travolta in the Punisher, would be beliveable as the head of a billion dollar company
not a big fan of paltrow, but she was fine in the roll
and like i've been saying from the beginning Robert Downey jr is Tony Stark
one of the best casting choices of all time
the movie was tremendous
19.
Bridges played the character as cold and calculating. That was good.

Ant-Man could be good.

Marvel have so many strong characters that they have it made if the continue with the high production and casting values.

DC have a Captain Marvel film on their schedule, that one could go either way.
20.
My only issue (and I haven't seen the movie yet) with Jeff Bridges is that.....When he played Starman....People thought he was such a good actor to be able to do that role.....Tons of movies later....It just turns out...That is just the way he talks..
Ok back to the Iron man discussions....
21.
glimmer
dc should just do superman and batman movies, and leave it at that. is wonderwoman still relivent, really? maybe a green lantern would be nice but besides that, their roaster sucks. marvel are murdering dc now 'cause, only now has the computer technology caught up with marvel ideas. marvel don't just have characters that fly... no. the have characters that move in unique ways. like spider-man and venom (for a small example). characters that would be a waste of time trying to recreate in tsuperman's movie hey days.
oh and batman are just recycling the same villains. we all know the joker and the penguin. why not give someone like clayface a shot on the big screen (i'm sure they can pull him off with todays cgi).
anyways enough of my distaste for dc characters.
Ant-man would be cool, but i think marvel should do a Thor movie. you wouldn't be able to get me in the theater quick enough.
ofcourse it would be even better if Loki was the villain in it too...
Photobucket
the guy kicks ass...

king
example 2. shazzam!/captain marvel is so out dated and irrelivent. dc should just forget that one. who cares about shazam! in this day and age? nobody... it would be better if they did green lantern (sorry to repeat myself). and look at the character design on that guy. hideous... looks like a pedophile dressed to impress...

On another note... an Avengers Movie would rule! :)

And besides...once Watchmen comes out....it won't matter.

haven't read that myself. but i know what you mean. dc does have great story lines. i can't deny that. "kingdom come" is a perfect example of that. but i just find the characters are poorly designed/basic.... thats why i love batman. he isn't the greatest or strongest superhero. but he is one of the best designed and the moody atmosphere of his comic books are what makes him stand out in the dc universe.

how the character got their abilities doesn't make a difference. i think both x-men and spider-man are better comic books than batman and iron man (x-men and spider-man are my fav american comic books). when i said-
Spider-man shoots web from his wrist, eh? WTF!!!

i was refering to the fact that spider-man can't shoot webs from his wrist. because even though he gained all spider abilities when he got bit. he can't shoot web from his body (for anatomical reasons). he has web shooters which he makes himself. this was just one of many marvel movie inacuracies. x-men: the last stand, is chuck full of them. almost made me not enjoy the movie.
hulk is my 3rd favorite hero (or whatever he is). if anyone has gone into the hulk stories, they will know why.

I hate Spider-Man movies.

First one was okay.

Second one was crap. "Go get them tiger" or whatever the fuck that girl says in the end, and then Spider-Man jumps out of the window to kick ass. The cheese made my eyes bleed. Never watched the third because I heard it was even worse.

I'm not a big fan of comic book stuff really. I liked Sin City and Batman Begins though because they didn't have the same cheese factor. 300 had a little too many crappy one liners for my tastes. Iron Man doesn't look too bad though and the reviews seem to support this.

BUT The Dark Knight looks tailor made for me. Dark, gritty and psychotic. Just the way I like it.

Oh....you've got to be kidding me....

The Onslaught Saga was lamer than FDR's legs.

Marvel hasn't done a decent expansive storyline since The Secret Wars....meanwhile....DC has done Crisis On Infinite Earths, The Impiriex Saga and Identity Crisis. I'm a DC girl. They have more history to their company. Marvel is good, they've done their share of awesome books (I loved the original run of Excalibur)....but DC's got it going on now.

And if you're into moody & atmospheric, check out Hellblazer. John Constantine is one of the most complex characters in the DC/Vertigo universe. And yes, I'm refering to THAT John Constantine. Fuck the shitty movie with Keanu in it. The comics are fucking off the chain awesome. I have just about every single one. its a good investment considering the hulk looks good too, and with iron man being really great, people will give it a chance just for THAT reason....

that means Captain America and Thor in one movie. too sweet... one question though. why the fuck is Nick Fury black? it's Kingpin all over again. who next...
anyway...
lets see which movies makes it out first. justice league or avengers.
42.
uh loki, why not try to explain to me how Harvey Dent/two face in the original batman series of movies was BLACK....Billy Dee Williams...and then all of a sudden....BANG...Tommy Lee Jones...

didnt realize Acid changes the real side of his face and body white from black.

interesting.....
43.
it's getting kinda ridiculous. image you read the harrypotter books went to watch the movie and all of sudden he's black.
thats how ridiculous it is to me. i find it that stupid.
44.
loki u know, how about the fact you have what 3 different superman's now floating around?!?!?!

Brandon Routh, Tom Welling and whomever plays him in Justice League?

or hwo about this....wonder women movie...explain to me WHY DONT THEY CAST THE SAME BITCH IN THE MOVIE AS THEY DO IN JUSTICE LEAGUE?!?!?!!?!?

i realize that michael Keaton or Christopher Reeve can be there respective parts NOW...but if your makinh shit close to each other HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO JUST CAST THE PEOPEL ALREADY PLAYING THEM?!?!?!
45.
thats a serious statement. i hope marvel don't buy their weed from the same people supplying dc. because if they make an avengers movie. Downy Jr. better be Stark.

and i can understand them overlooking Tom Welling, but why not make Brandon Routh play the justice league superman? the guy is RIGHT THERE! it's seriously going to bring down the feel of the movie.
46.
LOL loki, its kinda like when Sarah Chalke replaced Lecy Gorenson as Becky on Rosanne...like all of a sudden she looked different and didnt say shit about it...

at least they gave an explination as to why the opracle looked different from the matrix movies u know?

but yeah, im not familer with the Avengers comic, so i dont know if its STILL Marvel or ifs its a cross over...

if you see any crossover movies in teh future, you can GUARENTEE than DC will NOT let DC charachters from NON Marvel movies in the movie seeing as how Marvel Studios is notw in creative control over all Marvel Properties.....

I have been banned
I like Tom Welling.

That is all.
47.
They don't have the same actor playing the same character in wonder woman and justice league for example probably because they are made by different studios...leading to conflict, rather than common sense.

And I knew I should have stayed for the end credits. But oh no, we had to get up and leave with the rest of the sheep.
Bah. (or baa-aaa even)

Nick Fury is black in the Ultimate universe
the new Marvel stuff, cartoons ect seem to be following those story lines
not the traditional Marvel Universe stuff

i hear that tony stark went 12 for 12 in bedding the maxim cover girls last year...although march was busy and couldnt fit in his schedule, thankfully december was twins, so technically 12 for 12 is true.

this 'spam' thing is funny especially since we're getting hit with all these you've got to have alot money dating sites.

and moe/jackson always say /the site isn't getting enough ad clicks.

now if the ad clicks aren't happeneing does whomever really think. were gonna type/paste those dating sites into the addy bar ???

anwya i did like the herpesloves 'spam' thing. at least that was different. i mean people with herpes should still get to have sex too. well you know what i mean..

and the douche label hit elsa fast. she wasn't even here a day.

moe/jackson maybe you put some sidebar thing on the front page with the 30 or sites simliar to 'loving rich' and charge'em. :)
