    Anyone see the opening ceremonies?
Despite my humanitarian and political problems with China. I am still a big Olympics fan.
    The opening ceremonies where incredible.
When I was 16 I was an Olympic class swimmer and was set to try and qualify and to go to Seoul. Dumb ass kid.
Two weeks before the meet and after rigorous years of swimming through out my youth I broke my knee skate
boarding. I made great times even with the shattered knee cap, but not Olympic times. Before the knee injury
I was unofficially breaking world records.......Anyway....That is why I have such a tie to the games.

I know this won't happen, but it would be nice if this moved China towards a better humanitarian record.

Emerging babe of the Olympiad. I always get a crush on some athlete. This heare it is Alicia or the Women's USA Olympic squad. They have had a lot of set backs, but I hope they can pull out a medal.
Alicia is well above 18 so no worries. Actually, as I pointed out in the front page 4 out of 6 are 18 or older so just don't look at the 16 years olds with any lust. :O)

BEIJING (AP)—One little girl had the looks. The other had the voice.

So in a last-minute move demanded by one of China’s highest officials, the two were put together for the Olympic opening ceremony, with one lip-synching “Ode to the Motherland” over the other’s singing.

The real singer, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, with her chubby face and crooked baby teeth, wasn’t good looking enough for the ceremony, its chief music director told state-owned Beijing Radio.

So the pigtailed Lin Miaoke, a veteran of television ads, mouthed the words with a pixie smile for a stadium of 91,000 and a worldwide TV audience. “I felt so beautiful in my red dress,” the tiny 9-year-old told the China Daily newspaper.

Peiyi later told China Central Television that just having her voice used was an honor.

It was the latest example of the lengths the image-obsessed China is taking to create a perfect Summer Games.

Well that an faking the ages of the Women's Olympic Gymnast team.
Fake fireworks, fake singing (what is this a Hannah Montana episode) and faking ages. Nive
I was happy to hear that for India!
    Oh...And go Michael Phelps!!!
  8.
Age faking? hahaha! thats class. what next, gender faking? that would be the final candle on the cake.
good on India gripping a medal, though. damn, 80 years... thats really lame.
  9.
Yes, with nearly a billion people you think they could find a few more athletes that could stand out. Not really their thing though.

    On the gender faking......
"Yes Tim, that tuck job is beyond measure. I think they could have went smaller on the impants though."
Tim - "It is a perfect tuck job. The tuck job alone brings their difficulty level up to a 7.125 making the American woman's team not even in contention this time out."
"This American team does have a major obstacle facing this omni-gender team. I mean where do you find 6, 4' 5" transgender bodybuilder gymnasts."
"China's where you find them Tim, China."
  10.
LMAO!!! maybe they ain't even chinese... they just went and got some good old trusty Thai lady boys and said roll with it.

Also read about China's protests....They are allowing protests in designated areas. You must submit your request in writing 5 days before the protest, have the number of people at the protest and the media that will cover it. The Chinese government has so far arrested most of the people that have made the requests. That's fair right?

Face facts, Ed. The Chinese had a better team. The end. The Americans choked. Alicia SackOfRamenNoodles fell down twice. The end.

And my statement....think about it....imagine if you had won and your opponent cried foul & wanted you investigated, even though you beat them fair & square, they still wanted to be a sore loser & find some loophole that allowed them to win. Would you say that's fair? Nope. And what's going on with the protests, no, it's not fair either. So I'm actually agreeing with you. So take a deep breath, go write Alicia SaggyRamonesAlbum a love letter or whatever it is you do & calm down.
  16.
I'm Calm....I just have heard of no protests and you were making a leap. Read your statement again...How does it translate to you?

Is there some evidence of a US team protest or anything saying they want an investigation? If there is I haven't seen one. That's all I'm saying.
  17.
Right now there are far too many things going on in the World for me to care if the US team protests the medals anyway.
In the end that is up to the Olympic committee anyway so the point is mut.
The Olympics are a destraction and yet there are armies marching into democratic countries and still suicide bombs going off in Iraq....Not front page news right now....Middle of the paper is the best part anyway.

lol - yea cause we all know that information once posted on the net can be erased...

Seriously who freaking cares... I'm sure that most countries around the world would like that to be investigated...

    article....

...The world's foremost expert on female gymnastics Bela Karolyi (whose Romanian by the way) has routinely referred to the 2008 Chinese team as "half people" and in his contributions to NBC as a commentator during the Games he has railed against the Chinese for engaging in age falsification. After China outscored the U.S. in the qualification round, Karolyi had this to say about the Chinese gymnastics officials:

"These people think we are stupid...We are in the business of gymnastics. We know what a kid of 14 or 15 or 16 looks like. What kind of slap in the face is this? They are 12, 14 years old and they get lined up and the government backs them and the federation runs away. There is an age limit and it can't be controlled.
Chinese Olympic officials have forcefully defended He's eligibility, maintaining that when asked, they submitted proper passport documentation to the IOC. He's passport says her date of birth is January 1, 1992, making her 16 and old enough to compete. However, as Karoyli told the AP, "passports mean nothing."

China has a rich history of age falsification in Olympics competition, especially in gymnastics. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, three years after the minimum age was raised to 16 in gymnastics, Chinese gymnast Yang Yun competed and won a bronze medal in the uneven bars (coincidentally this event is also He's specialty). Yang's passport said she was born on December 24, 1984 and turning 16 in the year of the Games, making her eligible. She later confessed in a television interview that she was only 14 at the time of the competition and that she and her coaches had lied about her age.

As in the case of Yang Yun, the existing records prior to the Olympics -- local registries, athletic records and news articles -- were all correct, whereas the documentation she showed Olympic officials to confirm her eligibility proved to be false. It is no coincidence that He Kexin's passport was issued on February 14, 2008, a mere 6 months before the Olympics....

Seeing as Afganistan now is the supplier of 90% of the heroin in the world....I think the Taliban may be pushing buttons. I have a feeling that this heroin may be the new way of trafficing money to terrorist groups.
We aren't far from a major attack outside of the US. Iraq and Afganistan just happen to be the perfect practice ground.
So Alicia is pretty to look at.....But my mind is elsewhere.
I think we need to get out of the Muslim world entirely. It's nothing but trouble. Now Pakistan is our friend. 10 years from now we'll probably be invading it, and fighting against all the weapons we gave them.

That's why I think Russia must be laughing when we are telling them to get out of Georgia.

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia (AP)—Thousands of Mongolians hit the streets of the capital to celebrate the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medal, offering vodka toasts, blaring their car horns and waving the nation’s flag from the city’s tallest buildings.

Fireworks exploded above Ulan Bator as revelers sang the national anthem after traditional wrestler Tuvshinbayar Naidan’s judo win on Thursday. Naidan, whose nickname is “Tuvshee,” beat Kazakhstan’s Askhat Zhitkeyev in the men’s 100-kilogram class.

“I can’t believe Mongolia just won a gold medal,” said Baljinnyam Dashdorj, 17, celebrating with relatives spanning three generations. “I can’t believe he did it. This is amazing. I’m so happy, I can only jump up and down!”

Mongolia has won medals in wrestling, boxing, shooting and judo at previous games, but never a gold. Gundegmaa Otryad won a silver medal in women’s pistol shooting on Wednesday......

Nice try, Ed. I recognize all of the URL's.

TLA, he just Rick-Rolled you. A crime that's punishable by death in seventeen countries.
  34.
    Hey the first one isn't a Rick-Roll.....It's evidence.... :O)
  35.
In the US Rick-Roll is only punishable by 18 hours of Rick Astley music....Which is a fate worse than death.

No, the first one is just pure unfunny. And I've seen people get seriously hurt because they Rick Rolled someone.
  36.
It was to lighten things up a bit. What am I going to be old and grumpy.
    Stop being an
    dd
It's seriously annoying and certainly unfunny.
Being as I have never seen anyone Rick Rolled on the forum yet....It doesn't seem there is any bitterness. Especially towards me.....Who does it as a joke.
If you are bitter with me and hate my guts raise your hand people....Yeah...I know Azk....I know you hate me. I'm just saying....Let's get a general consensus and if the jury comes back that I am to be torched by Astley spit lyric fire than I will got to the gallows.
Better off....and See, now everyone here is aware of a Rick-Roll if they hadn't been before.
This is a violence free Rick-Rolling environment.
  37.
Apparently if you can't find a sense of humor you can buy one on ebay for virtually nothing......
I say this because I know you will take the above personally and will not be able to find it within yourself....To get over yourself and realize I'm just joking.

Did you say something? I was fixing a sandwich.

Look I know I have a Sacramone (Sachrine-Mone) sweet tooth. I think her eyes were of concentration and sorrow at her failure.
Now if anyone watched paralell bars last night you truly saw a look that was "Nastia Liukin"...If you get my drift.
She had every right to be angry. Her routine was the same difficulty and had less mistakes. The judges just screwed it up. That not being a patriot that just my personal judgement...Well me and almost everyone on the planet that has any vision left.
In any event, if you want to see a look of hate and anger...Take a look at Nastia Liukin news pictures.
I heard balance beam goes better for one of our shining stars tonight, and we are bound to see more scowls and "Nastia Liukin" faces this evening.

  39.
So you honestly think the hop on the landing and the two mistakes made during the Chinese girl during the uneven bars were better than Nastia's slight error and no hop landing. OK.
  40.
I actually don't have a problem with American losing, but there are some pretty blatant errors. Especially people judging gymnastics from countries that have never won a Gold medal or don't have a system of gymnastics in their country for them to practice judging on a consistent basis. That way they know what the hell they are doing when they judge at the Olympics.
It just seems that comments are made, just because they are American and just because they are complaining. Which I admit is annoying. At the same time it is the US and everything is going to be spun that way.
    For example:
Gymnastics is a cruel world—just ask Alicia Sacramone
Alicia losing to someone who didn't even make the landing...Well that stands out a bit. If anything, I have seen more discissions go in favor of the Chinese than against in these games.
But do you actually watch the games? Anyone that actually watched would know why there was such a problem with the scores.
