    glad this was written...

interesting bits in article and the reply section.

i haven't seen twilight nor read the books.but if transformers is gonna get 23 billion dollars i don't know why i'm supposed to hate twilight so much.

i realize many here/wherever say 'oh no to twilight.but i'm sort of rooting for it.it's nice to something that not seemed/vibed so much 'for the guys' (or work within a genre that has ultra appeal for them) do big box office/be a franchise.

no i have no guy cred.and i have no cultural cred either.and maybe i'm not human either... ;)
  1.
twilight sucks. girl or guy. the writing sux. the movies suck. its not about being a GUY and not liking it cause its a CHICK THING.

Buffy in ALOT of way is a "Chick" thing with how female buffy is, especially with angel.

    its written well. its good.

i could name plenty of female directed movies that are GOOD... sliding doors? ameile?

Twilight is one of the biggest pieces of shit ever to see a movie screen or to be put down on paper.

transformers sucks. michael bay sucks. you CAN make a movie witha good story, good acting AND Blowing alot of shit up... michael bay CHOOSES not to. id suggest hes in the closet honestly.

with the amount of testorerone in his movies, its obvious.

kinda like a dude that fucks as many chicks as he possibly can (non inclusive to porn stars) or Eminem who hates gays so much...

id suggest its a good bet that Michael Bay is gay, but hes just not alright with it yet.

btd... cool reply from you. but as i said cool/interesting bits in the reply section. alot of it covered ground similiar to yours and that's fine...

i am more annoed at 'the guys' that put down anything/everything with a female and even seem to hate the idea of movie that doesn't seem ultra guy oriented. oh well they hate 'arty' cine

the same guys that can to their top 25 'hot' female list and the only thing they have to say about the females on their list the only trait that they feel is 'good' is how much they want to f*** that female. and their 'hot' list is sooo generic too.

guess those were the type of guys i was hinting towards abit.maybe there's just more of these in the south. ha ha...

but yeah i do hate that anything (in general) with a big female appeal is so often automatically put down viewed as second rate.

even if the people saying 'oh no' twilight t comes out this week but they're all amped for something like the transformers....arrrgh...ok...

yes, you and d.j. have more than once said 'oh no' twilight and have given good reasons for it and that's cool. you both have an interest in the genre and would prefer something else get some of that spotlight and that's fine.or wishing twilight had no spotlight...ok fine.whatever. noted and noted. it's fine.

    and d.j. claps. cool... :)
  3.
twilight is tweenie pulp romance with vamps thrown in for flavor, doesnt surprise me in the least that they have "Scored" at the box office. It is a franchise that knows their demographic and has played to it perfectly.

    EXACTLY.

What angers me is that there are ADULTS who swear by this series....and then they have the nerve to slam the adults who like the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter got kids reading again and not only that, Jo put a lot of complicated themes into those books. And...Jo didn't take a thematic genre and then decide to shit all over it. And people are saying that Stephanie Meyer is the next J.K. Rowling.

    No.

Jo has talent. Stephanie Meyer is a goddamn hack. She got lucky in the sense that:

    1. Anne Rice has gone all cuckoo for Jesus and isn't doing any more vamp novels.

    2. Poppy Z. Brite also packed it in and does books about food now.

    3. Bram Stoker is dead.

    4. Buffy & Angel are off the air (side note: JOSS....DOLLHOUSE ISN'T CUTTING IT....DO SOMETHING GOOD. PLEASE)

Her only REAL competition is Laurell K. Hamilton...and the Anita Blake series is borderline pornographic...and it's actually good...kind of.

And Glim...Twilight is second rate...because it's crap. Literally. It's fucking shit...on toilet paper...with a binding. I can sit and analyze the literary themes in just about any novel...and then be prepared to discuss them. Twilight...is devoid of any literary themes. It's just pure drivel.

Buffy in ALOT of way is a "Chick" thing with how female buffy is, especially with angel.

Yeah. Joss even said that it's supposed to a 'girl power' show.

And Angel...that's just Buffy for boys. At least I think so. There's hints of Batman, film noir (Sam Spade, in particular), Arthurian myth/legend (Season Four...that's all I'll say without giving away spoilers) and a healthy dose of good ol' Jossverse mythos....but that's a given.

    hey d.j. :)

And people are saying that Stephanie Meyer is the next J.K. Rowling

i could be wrong but the context that i usually hear this in or ok read this in has more to do with sales/being the biggest in sales to have a big teen audience since the potter series. not claiming the books are similiar in worth/readable/talent on the writers end.

well last i heard there isn't gonna be another twilight book because meyer is upset about whatever leak occured. so if that's still true your and btd prayers have been answered.

Potter wasn't geared towards teenagers. Potter was geared towards kids...and then their parents decided to give 'em a read and they discovered how good they were. And that was just in ENGLAND....then it came stateside....and it BLEW THE FUCK UP.

Twilight is geared towards teens...but given how stupid the majority of our populace is now, people were hyping her as the next Jo Rowling BEFORE her second book even came out...so yeah, I hate to be a bitch and prove you wrong, but they were basing it on "how good it is", not sales. If you want to compare numbers, especially worldwide....Jo blows Stephanie out of the water, off the planet, out the solar system and onto that suicidal planet that NASA discovered.

Either way, Stephanie Meyer can't even touch J.K. Rowling. Or Phillip Pullman.

And yeah, she is all butthurt that the book got leaked and she ISN'T going to do another book, praise be to Kali. I know you have to remember the "SNAPE PWNS DUMBLEDORE" meme that was so popular. Did that stop Jo? Nope. It didn't. She put the book out anyway. Stephanie is a fucking whiny ass Mormon crybaby bawbag cuntmuffin.

don't worry about it/i've been proven wrong before. *ha ha*

    thanks for the info/post. :)
  6.
No prob. It's the teacher in me.
  7.
Yeah I picked up Rowling once when stuck overnight babysitting my friends kids. I had been previously aware of the series but of course hadnt read them. They are finally crafted fare. When the Twillight Movies started getting pre-release PR going, I thought ohh maybe another great easy series to read. I think I made it through the first 100pages of the first book, before giving up entirely.

Although I wouldnt be as harsh on Stephanie as you DJ, because I am satisfied with anything that gets kids reading something besides their text messages and their PC screen. Even if it is tripe.
  8.
I'd rather have kids NOT reading tripe...because that detracts from decent literature.
  9.
I agree, unfortunetly so many kids today can only "deal" with tripe.
  10.

    4. Buffy & Angel are off the air (side note: JOSS....DOLLHOUSE ISN'T CUTTING IT....DO SOMETHING GOOD. PLEASE)</code>

    i couldnt agree more.

its nice seeing Eliza, Amy, Alan, and i hear Denisof is gonna get a few epis this season coming up, i HATE the schmuck who does the dolls personality inserts, i watch that show HOPING he gets horribly mutilated.

i liked her protector tho, he was cool.

    but dollhouse is WEAK.

all i can say dude, lets HOPE Cabin In The Woods is good... 2/5/10
  11.
and DJ i meant the whole Angel/Buffy relationship in BUFFY... thats so geared towards females, but, its GOOD. its written well.

when something is GEARED towards a certain group, and trancends it due to the fact its QUALITY, ie the buffy/angel relationship,. in the end the quality makes it worthwhile, and who its geared to null.

THIS IS GOING INTO MY DISSERTATION!!!!

    *bows down*

I just don't understand why he doesn't just restart the Buffy mythos with Eliza. You know if she got the chance to play Faith again, she'd do in a minute....because she's not a stuck up cuntwad like Gellar.

It could be based off the novel Go Ask Malice (read it, btw...you'll love it)...or her working with some no-name potentials and have the occasional guest appearance by Tom Lenk or Tony Head. or whoever. Shit.

Dollhouse....it doesn't feel right. Like...Buffy was the maidenhead show...and it lasted seven seasons (although, in my mind...5.5 seasons....season six is that bad and parts of four & seven aren't that much better). And it was good. And then he did Angel...and Angel worked. And then he showed his true genius and we got Firefly.

    Hold on.

FUCK YOU, FOX. FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU FOR CANCELLING FIREFLY AND LETTING SHIT LIKE THE O.C. LAST FOR AS LONG AS IT DID.

    Ok. Sorry. Where was I?

And Firefly was good. It was DAMN good. It was fucking orgasmic. Hell, even Point Pleasant...which is technically Marti Noxon's pet project...was good. In fact, I know someone who wants to burn FOX to the ground for cancelling it (and if you saw the season/series finale, you'd know why).

But...Dollhouse...not so much. Yeah, it's got Alan Tudek, Eliza Dushku and the woman who I think deserves Emmys for just about EVERYTHING she does...Amy Acker...but even then...the show is BARELY staying afloat. And I think I read somewhere that he said that he doesn't like recasting the same people. Joss, baby....DON'T FUCK WITH PERFECTION. You have a stable of actors & actresses & writers & producers & directors who have elevated your stuff to cult status...don't fuck with the formula. That's just artistic suicide. If you want to do something new, do it on film...but when it comes to you & TV...you've got gold...run with it.

and DJ i meant the whole Angel/Buffy relationship in BUFFY... thats so geared towards females, but, its GOOD. its written well.

It's better than good...it's damn near PERFECT. It's the ultimate flawed relationship. In fact, a lot of relationships in the Buffy/Angelverse are so fucking flawed...yet so perfect. And that's what Stephanie Meyer was trying to do with Twilight...and failed...miserably.
  13.
sometimes i hit the nail on the head LOL.

    Firefly was good.

as for buffy, when i get to the initiave bullshit, lets just say, i wind up stopping watching the series now.

    i LOVE glory, i do.

but most times i cant even GET to her cause the initive arc IMHO is so weak...

and whats sad, right now, the initive arc looks genius next to dollhouse.

whats funny about buffy, joss/writers, didnt they basically LEAVE IT OPEN to immesurable storylines and arc and infinity with the whole/all potentials become slayers addition?

add into the fact that the only characters you really CANT have back in the future IS people like angel or spike due to the fact that vampires dont "Age" so technically, 20 years after the series ended, you couldnt HAVE back angel or spike, cause, well, barring CGI, they wont look "timeless"

but, you can literally restart the series whenever, and use some of the originals to guest and such or even STAR since, well, you just go.... well 20 years later...

add Wonderfalls to that list of shows.... its not very Whedonesque, where Point Pleasent IS, its still a show i believe headed up by people from whendonverse that got screwed and was pretty funny.

oh, btd. i didn't thank you for making fun of transformers. you know i smiled. :)

To answer the title of this post....No.

If you want to read a great book for any age.....Read the Giver by Lois Lowry. Also anything by Roald Dahl......I personally think
J.K. Borrowed a lost of her writing style from him. Especially in the first 3 Harry Potter books. I know this is way off the original discussion, but
I always felt that Harry Potter reminded me of Charlie Bucket.....a lot.
