Even people utterly uninterested in videogames know by now that two new game machines have arrived this month to lure holiday shopping dollars out of consumers' wallets. One is the long-anticipated PlayStation 3 from the videogame leader, Sony Corp. The other is the more obscure Wii, from the videogame pioneer, Nintendo Co. Both are going up against the year-old Xbox 360 from Microsoft Corp.

Like the Xbox, the PS3 and the Wii bear little resemblance to the toylike game consoles of the 1980s and 1990s. They are powerful computers that have been optimized for graphics and sound. And, like the Xbox, the two new contenders can handle multimedia and can connect to the Internet.

my impression of the Wii is that it is basicly a ps2
    as far as graphics capabilities
with nintendo games and a real cool controler
i saw a ps3 hooked up to an hdtv at the mall and it looked ridiculous
i'll probably be picking one up sometime in feb

Or a cranked up GameCube. The new Zelda game, which is the biggest hit so far on the Wii, uses the same graphics engine as the previous Zelda game, and they're even releasing a GC version of it. I think the Wii has its place, and most definitely a market. It's enough for Nintendo to be the king in the world's second largest economy for it to be a hit. If games like Final Fantasy weren't exclusive to the PS platform, Nintendo would pretty much be the only player on the Japanese market.

Screw them both, PS3 is essentially a Xbox 360 with a bigger pricetag and last place in the race to put out games that can actually utilize the hardware. The Wii is for little kids and that controller is a bad gimmick that I don't want to bother with. Zelda will be awesome though.

I'm going to get an Xbox 360 sometime soon. I'm pretty much waiting for Halo 3, which will be a better game than any of the other systems will be able to come out with, ever, IMO. I think the 360 is going to make up a lot of ground on Sony and Nintendo since they launched their system far sooner than the other two and that means they can pump out many more games. This way when the other two systems are puting out their first games, which tend to be weak, the Xbox will have much better games.

never really been a halo fan, i hate 1st person games
i guess it all comes down to the games
    and the games i like
    final fantasy, GTA
all have either exclusive or staggered contracts with sony
so until that changes i'll stick with their systems
the only game for Xbox that i miss on playstation is the knights of the old republic games
but i get them for the pc so i'm all set

I think Halo 3 (or what Halo 2 should have been like) is already out on 360. It's called Gears of War. ;-)

Yeah I dont know, I keep renting other games and I get bored with them quickly and end up going back to playing Halo 2. It's like the most addictive game ever, and I'm getting too good at it. I should be in one of those competitions I see on tv, I play enough.

I do miss Tekken though and I'm sure ps3 will have some dope tekken games.

Right now, I gotta give it up to M$. For once, they seemed to have listened and have 'it' right, for now. Graphics are not the be all end all that Sony is trying to push. Nintendo can still do what Nintendo does best: Make games fun. But until they get ramped up with releases, Xbox has both of them lock, stock and two smokin' barrels.

I can't seem to get enough of Burnout on the 360. I play that damn thing a lot when I do get a chance to release the bullshit.

Yeah I think MS is actually doing great. I don't think the ps3's graphics are going to be much better than the 360's and it doesnt matter anyways if you don't make games that can utilize the full resources of the system. That's where Xbox is going to thrive, while the new ps3 is just coming out, the 360 is going to be releasing their next generation of games, which are always so much better. Then by the time the ps3 and wii get around to making their next gen games, Xbox will have developed a new and improved system.

I like a lot of the games xbox puts out but some of these commercials for new 360 games are fucking insane. They are really testing my patience on getting the 360.
